DescriptionTwelfth Night William Shakespeare Twelfth Night, Or What You Will is a comedy by William Shakespeare, based on the short story "Of Apolonius and Silla" by Barnabe Rich. It is named after the Twelfth Night holiday of the Christmas season. It was written around 1601 and first published in the First Folio in 1623. The main title is believed to be an afterthought, created after John Marston premiered a play titled What You Will during the course of the writing. Author descriptionWilliam Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in April 1564, and his birth is traditionally celebrated on April 23. The facts of his life, known from surviving documents, are sparse. He died on April 23 1616, and was buried in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford. Jonathan Crewe is the Leon D. Black Professor in Shakespearean Studies at Dartmouth College. He has published extensively on early modern and twentieth-century literature." |
